Tanzania Media Foundation

Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered under the 2002 NGO Act in July 2019. It was previously registered under the 2002 Companies Act as a company limited by guarantee. Between 2015 and 2018 TMF operated a successful grant-making mechanism from which hundreds of media houses and businesses benefited.

TMF is committed to advancing the three-fold role of the media – that is, as a watchdog, agenda-setter, and gatekeeper in Tanzania. We believe that the media can provide checks and balances on powerful sectors of society through investigative, public interest, and accountability journalism. To make this happen, TMF works to promote a viable (vibrant, independent, responsible, and diversified) media sector in Tanzania through conducting media research, nurturing, and support.
